ATTIA has worked with AgriFutures Australia since its years operating as the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC), before adopting the AgriFutures Australia name in 2017. Since then, the two organisations have continued to work together to build knowledge and support research across many of the issues critical to Australian Tea Tree Oil.

A dedicated Tea Tree Oil Industry Advisory Panel provides another important connection between research and industry, helping identify priorities, advise on investment decisions, facilitate information sharing and support the practical adoption of research outcomes.
The current AgriFutures Tea Tree Oil Program RD&E Plan 2026–2029 demonstrates this approach. Developed in partnership with ATTIA Ltd and through broader industry consultation, it provides a roadmap covering priorities including market access, evolving international regulatory requirements, and sustainable and profitable production.
It is a model that combines industry insight with research capability to focus investment where it can make a meaningful difference.

Research supported through the AgriFutures Tea Tree Oil Program, with input and participation from ATTIA and the broader industry, has been extensive, spanning:

Some of the clearest examples can be seen in the scientific evidence surrounding Tea Tree Oil.
In 2007, when AgriFutures was operating as RIRDC, a major review of the effectiveness and safety of Australian Tea Tree Oil brought together research into areas including efficacy, stability, oxidation and toxicity.
More recently, AgriFutures supported an updated evidence map examining Tea Tree Oil applications, efficacy and safety, reflecting the significant growth in published research and identifying both the strength of existing evidence and areas requiring further investigation.
Within the broader industry’s response to evolving international regulatory requirements, ATTIA and AgriFutures have also worked together to support important areas of scientific research. This has included research specifically designed to generate scientific evidence for European cosmetics regulation and more recent work responding to regulatory challenges facing Tea Tree Oil.
That work continues today, with important new research proposals currently being discussed in response to the evolving European regulatory situation. These discussions reflect the ongoing need to ensure the industry has access to appropriate scientific research as regulatory questions and requirements develop.

With approximately 90% of Australian production exported, international market access, regulatory requirements and scientific evidence are critical to the industry’s future.
